March 28, 2011 – Blaine, Minn. – During the weekend of March 19, 2011, torrential rains hit the San Jose, Calif., area where Oak Grove School District is located. Staff arrived at school on Monday to find their Infinite Campus servers damaged by a roof leak in their data center. A phone call to Infinite Campus got Oak Grove data redirected to the Campus Data Center at the Infinite Campus Corporate Office in Blaine, Minn., and they were back in business within an hour.

“Our district serves 11,500 students and on Monday morning when the secretaries called us to report that Infinite Campus was down and they were getting an error message they’d never seen before, we knew we had a problem,” said Laura Stricker, Oak Grove Information Systems Supervisor. “We contacted Infinite Campus and before 10 a.m. we were fully up and running. Their response time is impressive.”

Infinite Campus offers a unique hosting solution that provides a server at each customer’s site to ensure optimum system response times. All equipment is remotely managed and maintained by the Campus Hosting Team, including nightly scheduled backups.

Campus Managed Services staff assisted in retrieving Oak Grove’s data. When Oak Grove contacted them Monday morning about their loss of service, they were fully prepared to spin up their backup data so they could access their information from the Campus Data Center via the Internet. In addition to disaster recovery, several districts have chosen to add Campus Continuous Backup for an additional cost to their hosting options, so if loss of service happens during business hours, they would only lose minutes of data rather than an entire day.

Oak Grove is pleased to learn that Infinite Campus replaces all necessary Infinite Campus equipment at no additional cost. New equipment will arrive in Oak Grove within days. Infinite Campus will even replace the custom scripts lost in the outage.

“When this happened I was actually relaxed because I knew we had the support from Infinite Campus,” said Stricker. “When we became an Infinite Campus customer in 2010, we purchased Campus Hosting services. We found out first hand that it really works the way they said it would.”
